The Club:
Gorleston Golf Club was established in 1906. The Club’s 18-hole course is situated on the Norfolk cliff tops with spectacular views overlooking the North Sea.
We are a thriving Members’ Club, with over 500 members. All sections of the club are extremely active with a full calendar of internal competitions as well as participation in a wide range of county and regional competitions.
Over recent years there has been considerable investment in the club including upgrading our irrigation and drainage systems, improving our greens and purchasing land that is now being utilised by having two new holes developed, with an option of an additional two further holes being implemented at a later date
The Club Management Committee will work closely with the General Manager to develop and deliver the Club’s strategic five year business plan.
The Opportunity:
The Club is looking for an experienced General Manager (GM) who will have responsibility for the smooth running of the Club.
Reporting to the Club Management Committee (CMC), the successful candidate will work closely with the CMC to determine, prioritise and deliver on the strategic aims of the Club. The GM will lead a committed team of individuals whose aim is to provide the highest standards of service to the Club membership, visitors and guests.
The CMC’s overriding vision is to be recognised as one of the best members’ golf clubs in Norfolk
The club are seeking a GM, to realise the opportunities provided by our course, location, and clubhouse. Appropriate skills need to be blended with a proven track record that brings together the different elements of club management to create a service-excellence culture and a one-team mentality.
- Executive responsibility and accountability for all aspects of the management of the Club, the Course, and its premises within the framework of the Club’s policies, procedures, and approved budgets.
- Delivery of appropriate Management Information, providing monthly updates to the Committee and the wider membership.
- Achieving high standards of performance from all staff by inspiring and motivating the teams.
- Bringing industry best practice to all areas of the Club’s activities, playing a key role in delivering the Club’s key operational, financial, and strategic goals.
The Role:
Day to Day responsibilities include:
- The efficient presentation and running of The Course, Clubhouse and all other facilities including our hospitality offering.
- The welfare, management and leadership of the team.
- Internal and external communication, including marketing and promotion of the Club.
- Monitoring and management of Budgets and Financial reporting and ensuring fiscal targets are achieved.
- Ensuring Compliance in all statutory, legal and health and safety matters.
The Candidate:
The ideal candidate will be excited by our proposition and sees this as an opportunity to grow their career and reputation. They will have:
- A strong and demonstrable track record of management and leadership within the sports / hospitality sector, and preferably a good understanding of the expectations and traditions of a members’ club.
- Be able to demonstrate an outstanding ability to communicate and relate to people of all backgrounds, with a real appreciation of golf and its traditions within the ethos of a private members’ club.
- Experience of balancing the needs of different groups of people and, in particular, the needs of the members, committee and staff.
- Strong commercial acumen with experience of growing revenue streams whilst controlling costs backed up by a sound understanding of finance and budgeting
