A Tribute to David O’Sullivan

It is with deep sadness and heavy hearts that we share the news of the passing of our esteemed colleague and dear friend, David O’Sullivan.

In Memory of David O’Sullivan

David served as GCMA National Captain in 2016 and remained a passionate supporter of the Association throughout his distinguished career. During his captaincy, he contributed a number of thoughtful articles to the GCMA members’ magazine—each a reflection of his unwavering commitment to our community and profession.

He took immense pride in his role as National Captain, valuing the opportunity to give back to the sport he loved. His efforts were always guided by a hope that his contributions would help ensure golf’s continued enjoyment by future generations.

A longstanding member of the South West region, David was the General Manager at China Fleet Golf Club for many years. His exceptional service to both the GCMA and the wider golf industry was formally recognised in 2018, when he was awarded Life Membership of the Association following his captaincy year.

Former GCMA CEO Bob Williams kindly shared the following words:

“I certainly count myself as fortunate enough to be CEO when David was elected as National Captain in 2016. At that juncture, golf was not experiencing the best of times, but David was always a glass-half-full person and remained extremely positive throughout his captaincy. Whilst a traditionalist, he would always throw his support behind new initiatives that might enhance the game of golf. His presence would command an audience, and his stories of leadership in his previous working life resulted in him becoming a well-respected ambassador for both the GCMA and the game of golf. He will be sorely missed.”

David’s legacy within our Association and the sport will endure. We extend our heartfelt condolences to his family, friends, and all who had the privilege of knowing him.
