Double joy for Leighton Walker at GCMA Members National Golf Championships 2024

With a new name and a fresh prize up for grabs, the GCMA Members National Golf Championships was a success — particularly for one member of the field.

Notts Golf Club (Hollinwell) provided a first-class experience at the GCMA Members National Golf Championships 2024 on Tuesday.

General Manager David Holmes and his team put on a fantastic event for nearly 50 golfers and guests taking part in what was formerly known as National Golf Day.

The rebranded event came with more than just a new name, with a new prize on offer for players to encourage competition.

Results

The winner of the Foundation Cup (Best Nett Medal Score) on 4 under par was Leighton Walker from Cirencester GC and host of industry podcast GCTUK. Tim Gilpin from Accountancy Matters took second, with Paul Thornton from Norwood Park in third.

Leighton also took home the Greenshields Trophy (Best Gross Medal Score) on 1 over par, ahead of Dan Housley from Chevin GC and Louis Matamala from Hertfordshire Golf.

Both of these competitions have been played for since the 1950s and carry plenty of GCMA history and heritage, and this year there was a brand new Stableford event thanks to our President, JR Jones.

‌The winner or the inaugural Presidents Rose Bowl (Best Stableford Points Score) with 35 points was Frank Hodgkiss from Deane Golf Club. Past captain Alan Davey from Pyecombe GC was second, while Terry Walker from Lingdale GC rounded out the top three.

Terry and Louis also added the nearest the pin prize, with Richard Beech claiming the longest drive.

Well done to all the prize winners and a special thank you to event sponsor Wilson Sporting Goods Co. and the fantastic support from brilliant business partner Golf Genius Software, who ran all aspects of the event superbly well.
