O’Malley’s pride as Woburn hosts G4D Open again

The G4D Open is taking place for the second time and Woburn Golf Club is on hosting duties again.

Woburn Golf Club’s Managing Director Jason O’Malley expressed his pride as the venue again provided the stage for the G4D Open.

The event is in its second year after launching at Woburn in 2023, when Brendan Lawlor triumphed. The Irishman has returned to defend his title in a field of 80 of the world’s best golfers with disabilities.

Woburn’s Duchess Course has been presented to a standard befitting the event, which is staged in partnership with The R&A and the DP World Tour.

And O’Malley was delighted to welcome the G4D Open back to the Bedfordshire venue, which he says is committed to promoting inclusivity across the sport.

“There’s a huge amount of pride and we’re really excited to be involved again,” he said.

“We were delighted to be chosen as the inaugural venue last year and we put a lot of time and effort in to this, whether that’s from my team or from the membership. We’ve got 110 members supporting and volunteering to support the championship this week, which is excellent.

“We pride ourselves on being warm, welcome and friendly and this shows our level of commitment to inclusivity. We wanted to be involved in this championship, and we don’t underestimate the fact it is a major championship, so nobody should undersell how big this week is and it’s great for that to be at our club.”

GCMA member O’Malley, who has been at Woburn for over 17 years, is full of admiration for the players at the G4D Open and believes all golfers can take inspiration from them.

“My view is that while some may see 80 golfers with disabilities, they’re actually just 80 players with incredible ability and it’s a really good spectacle,” he said.

“I say this to all and sundry really, but if you ever want to question where you think your golf is, or how testing it is, or if you want to really get pretty deep about it, what adversity is in life — come along to this event, have a watch and see what these 80 people overcome to enjoy the sport that we love. It is nothing short of spectacular and great to be involved with.”
