We recently highlighted the increase in licence fees for PPL (Phonographic Performance Ltd) and PRS for Music (Performing Rights Society) and it was noted that some clubs have received large increases in their annual charges.
One club, having written to challenge PRS & PPL over the increases, has managed to achieve a substantial reduction from around £600 to £200 per year by having their status changed from that of an ‘Amateur Sports Club’ to a ‘Registered Members Club’.
Therefore, if your club has received a substantial increase it may be worth contacting PRS/PPL to investigate whether a change of status to a ‘Registered Members Club’ will reduce the fee to a more acceptable level.
