Take care of your skin health with the Pledge2Check initiative

Skin cancer is one of the few cancers that can be detected early through visible changes, making self-checks essential.

The GCMA is proud to be supporting the Melanoma Fund’s Pledge2Check initiative, part of their Slip! Slap! Swing! campaign.

With a focus on safeguarding the health of golfers and greenkeepers, Pledge2Check encourages monthly skin checks to detect early signs of skin cancer and save lives.

We’re urging all golf clubs to get involved and support their members and staff in building life-saving habits.

Registration is FREE and provides resources, step-by-step guidance, and community support, to make skin health a priority on and off the course.

Spending countless hours under the sun increases the risk of melanoma and other forms of skin cancer—an issue that affects every golf club.

The good news is that these risks are largely preventable through sun protection and regular skin checks, which promote early detection and can save lives.

How It Works

From now until 24th November, the charity is building a community of participants who are starting a journey to pledge to check their skin monthly for six months. They will receive information to prepare for their first skin check, including guidance on how to perform the checks, what signs to look for, and how to respond if they notice anything unusual.

Reward

Ten clubs that achieve the highest number of completed sign-ups to the pledge will receive a sunboard, sunscreen dispenser and SPF50 sunscreen, a great opportunity to provide positive news around your club’s dedication to your duty of care, as well as access free sun protection for ALL as we move into spring.
