England Golf and the Golf Club Managers Association (GCMA) are delighted to offer golf club volunteers, including Captains, Chairs and others involved in key decision making, the opportunity to attend a Club Governance workshop during May 2019. Club Managers are also encouraged to attend.
Golf Club Committees – the good, the bad and the highly dysfunctional
This interactive workshop will help clubs to take their first step towards excellent governance.
It is accepted within our industry that high levels of membership satisfaction at clubs are generally underpinned by excellent collaborative governance, which can be best described as the staff and the elected volunteers pulling together effectively, in the pursuit of goals that secure the current and future success of the club.
That burden of responsibility at clubs often falls to just a few committed members, who often experience the common problems that golf club committees find themselves wrestling with, from painfully long meetings, inconsistency of direction at the club, and ultimately struggling to attract the best possible candidates to best serve the club.
Join us to network with like minded decision-makers who have aspirations to modernise club structures.
Workshop Facilitator
Kevin Fish has worked in the Club Industry for over 20 years, and was recognised by the GCMA as the UK Manager of the Year whilst managing the Glen GC in North Berwick. He was the first manager in Europe to secure the global qualification in Club Management. Kevin now runs his own training, consultancy and recruitment firm, Contemporary Club Leadership Ltd, where he helps Club Managers and Office Bearers to do the right things right.
After 20 years of supporting clubs Kevin Fish has seen some good, some bad and some highly dysfunctional club committees. He says, “The solutions are often common sense, but sadly not common practice. My task is to reveal the root of the problems to the committee, and help steer those willing volunteers to work with their senior staff to apply the solutions.
