There are now under six weeks left for clubs to prepare for the introduction of the new pound coin.
When it was announced last year only six months before the proposed launch it was clear that some clubs, depending on what coin operated equipment they used, faced considerable challenges. The news article on 4th November outlined some of these challenges along with further information on the new coin.
Both the old and the new coins will be in circulation from 28th March until 15th October, after which you should not accept old £1 coins or distribute them in change. Beyond 15th October, for a limited period, as yet unspecified, banks and post offices will still allow clubs to deposit old £1 coins into their bank account. You should return the current £1 coin and new £1 coin in separate cash bags otherwise this may delay the counting process.
