โGolf has enormous enduring appeal, but the industry cannot stand still. Expectations are changing and we should be prepared to challenge convention around how people play, practise, socialise and engage with the game.โ
So says Burhill Group Limited (BGL) Chief Operating Officer Stephen Brown as the company looks to bring a new perspective to the sport.
Having been Chief Operating Officer of BGLโs Adventure Leisure and Ninja Leisure divisions, Brown has spent the past few months immersing himself in BGLโs golf operations and working with teams across its venues as he takes on the Group COO role.
With more than 35 yearsโ experience across leisure, health, fitness and sport, heโs bringing a fresh perspective on how golf can respond to changing customer expectations, reach broader audiences and create more ways for people to engage with the game.
And in his expanded role, Brown will support BGLโs people, operational performance and long-term growth, while helping to connect expertise across its golf and leisure divisions.

โBGL has considerable talent and experience across golf and leisure,โ he said. โBy bringing those people and perspectives together, we can share ideas, challenge established thinking and find new ways to make the game more engaging and accessible.
โThat does not mean changing what makes golf special. It means learning from other sectors and being prepared to do things differently where it improves the experience.โ
BGL operates 32 golf and leisure facilities across the UK, including 10 golf clubs, and has invested in technology-led driving ranges.
The company is recognised for creating engaging and memorable experiences combining sport, leisure and hospitality. Investing in employee development, wellbeing and diversity while supporting career growth at all levels, it also runs a dedicated apprenticeship programme, providing opportunities for the next generation to develop valuable skills and build lasting careers in the leisure and hospitality sector.
