It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Paul Gibbons, Golf Secretary of Singing Hills Golf Club in Sussex, a cherished colleague, devoted family man, and respected member of our golfing community. He passed away suddenly following a devastating illness, leaving behind a legacy of kindness, dedication, and unwavering commitment to the sport he loved.
A keen golfer throughout his life, Paul not only excelled on the course, winning numerous competitions and earning the admiration of fellow players, but also devoted himself to the wider life of the club. In later years, he served as Golf Secretary, a role he embraced with intelligence, care, and an exceptional sense of duty. Whether arriving early, staying late, or stepping in at short notice, he approached every responsibility with quiet determination and a genuine desire to support others.
Warm, friendly, and always willing to help, Paul was the colleague everyone relied on and the competitor everyone respected. His ability to manage competitions and events with calm professionalism made him a cornerstone of the club’s operations. He brought people together, strengthened the community, and ensured that every member felt welcome.
During his time as a member of Singing Hills, he proved to be a steadfast supporter of the club and a valued friend to many. As General Manager at the time, I had the privilege of working closely with him, and I will always remember his generosity, his encouragement, and the genuine warmth he brought into every interaction. His loyalty and friendship meant a great deal, both personally and professionally.
Beyond the club, Paul was an active and valued member of the Golf Club Managers Association, generously sharing his knowledge and experience with managers across the Southern region. His contributions, guidance, and camaraderie enriched the wider golfing community and will be remembered with gratitude.
Above all, Paul was a devoted husband and family man, whose love for his family was evident in everything he did. His passing leaves a profound void in the lives of those who knew him, worked alongside him, and played the sport he cared for so deeply.
He will be remembered for his intelligence, his kindness, his sportsmanship, and his unwavering commitment to the game. His legacy lives on in the competitions he shaped, the friendships he forged, and the countless moments of generosity and good humour he shared with us all.
May he rest in peace.
