The GCMA at The Open: A busy week on the ground at Royal Troon

A busy few days at Royal Troon represented time well spent for the three-man GCMA team on the ground at The Open.

The GCMA had the privilege of being in attendance at Royal Troon for another magnificent edition of The Open, meeting with friends and contacts from across the golf industry.

CEO Tom Brooke, Board Member Ed Richardson and Partnerships Manager Darren Wood were all on the ground representing the association in Ayrshire for the 152nd Open.

The team met with a host of key stakeholders, partners and others with a vested interest in the sport, including England Golf, Scottish Golf, Wales Golf, Golf Genius, Players 1st, Booth Golf & Leisure, The R&A, the Golf Foundation, 18Players, BIGGA and more.

It was also a great opportunity to catch up with many GCMA members, with the association proudly represented during one of the stand-out weeks of the golfing calendar.

“It was an exceptionally busy week as always and a great privilege to be at such a wonderful event to represent the association,” said Tom.

“With the many meetings we had throughout the week with so many of our industry colleagues, the common theme is very clearly around collaboration and shared views on some key topics.

“Our main items of discussion continue to be around professional development and education for the golf industry workforce, as well as governance structures and growing awareness around the importance of having modern leadership models in place at golf clubs, no matter their size or place in the market.

“We presented some of the details of the GCMA’s new Advanced Management Programme to many of our industry colleagues and we were delighted with the response and willingness to support us as we move forward.

“A big thank you to the R&A for their hospitality and a massive congratulations to Stephen Anthony and his team at Royal Troon for everything they’ve achieved this year.”
