As we reach the height of the golfing season, all of us at the GCMA know just how busy life can become for golf club managers. Between competitions, member expectations, staffing, course operations and everything else that comes with running a successful club, it’s easy to get caught up in the day-to-day and forget that support is only a click, email or phone call away.
One of the things I’m most passionate about is making sure that you, our members, know the full breadth of support available through your GCMA membership. Whether you’re looking for a policy template, need advice on an operational issue, have a legal or financial query, or simply need someone to talk to, we’re here to help.
Start with the Information Library
The first place I’d encourage you to visit is the GCMA Information Library. It’s packed with guidance documents, best practice resources, policies and templates covering a wide range of golf club management topics.
Before reinventing the wheel, it’s always worth taking a look – you may find exactly what you need, whenever you need it.
Need More Specific Advice?
If you can’t find the answer in the Information Library, our GCMA Helpdesk is there to support you.
Our team can provide advice on a wide variety of golf club management issues and, if we don’t have the answer ourselves (which occasionally happens!), we’ll always know the right person to connect you with for further support. Simply submit your query and we’ll aim to respond within three working days (but usually sooner).
Specialist Support
Sometimes you need advice from an industry expert, which is why Full GCMA members also have access to:
- Golf Club Legal Services Helpline, delivered in partnership with the National Golf Clubs’ Advisory Association (NGCAA), providing expert legal guidance on the issues golf clubs face.
- Tee to Green Financial Helpline, offering a free initial consultation with a financial expert to discuss any financial concerns or questions.
It’s Not Always About Club Management
Whilst we’re here to support you professionally, I also want to remind you that we’re here to support you personally.
Being a golf club manager is an incredibly rewarding profession, but we all know it can also be demanding, particularly during the busiest months of the year. Long hours, difficult conversations and the pressure of balancing competing priorities can sometimes take their toll.
If you’re finding things difficult, please don’t feel you have to manage it alone.
As a member, you have access to our confidential Counselling Helpline and our network of trained Mental Health First Aiders, who are available to listen, offer support and signpost you towards further assistance if needed.
(To contact a MHFAider or utilise the Counselling Helpline, please visit the GCMA Members Hub).
Sometimes, though, you don’t need formal support—you just need someone who understands the role. Whether that’s your Regional Manager, a member of the HQ team or simply another GCMA member in your network, don’t hesitate to reach out. We’re always happy to listen, talk things through or simply have a chat.
A Final Reminder
Your GCMA membership is about so much more than professional development, events and networking. It’s about being part of a professional community that genuinely cares and is here to support you through both the everyday challenges and the more difficult moments.
So, as the season continues, please remember:
- Visit the Information Library for guidance, templates and practical resources.
- Use the GCMA Helpdesk when you need tailored advice.
- Take advantage of the Legal and Financial Helplines for specialist support.
- And if you simply need someone to talk to, please reach out.
All of us at the GCMA are here for you all year round—but, more importantly, we’re here when you need us most.
Finally, as we move through the summer season, I hope you’re able to take a moment to enjoy the sunshine, the golf and the wonderful communities that make our industry so special.
We work in a fantastic industry, surrounded by passionate people and memorable moments, and while the busy days can sometimes feel relentless, it’s important that we take the time to appreciate them too. Whether it’s watching a competition come together, seeing members enjoying the course, or simply taking a few moments to enjoy being part of this great game, make sure you find time to enjoy the season.
Thank you for everything you do to make golf clubs such special places. We’re proud to support you and be part of this incredible community.
Wishing you all a wonderful summer.
