The GCMA is proud to support On Course Foundation and we would like to appeal to our members to help them continue their inspiring and beneficial work of introducing more new golfers to the game.
The Foundation aims to help wounded, injured and sick Service personnel and veterans recover through the power of golf, with the ultimate hope of providing work opportunities in the golf industry. As they celebrate their 5th Anniversary, On Course Foundation aim to continue building a network of potential employers and to raise vital funds for their programme of nationwide golf skills and employment events.
Having featured on the BBC at this year’s Open Championship, it’s clear how our much loved game can serve as an incredibly powerful tool in the recovery of such inspirational individuals. As golf club managers there are a number of ways you can help provide valuable support to the charity:
- Be willing to engage with their regional staff to explore a small number of work experience and employment opportunities in areas such as greenkeeping, operations, events and management.
- Introduce the charity to Captains/Vice-Captains/Committee members to see if they would be interested in supporting for their year or a separate fundraising day.
- The charity will also be launching an Armed Forces Golf Week in 2016 which will give all clubs the chance to show their support for the military through golf – more to follow on how to register your club in the coming months.
- On an individual basis you and your club’s members can help them launch their Champion the Cause programme by simply clicking here to give just £2 a month. Your kind donation will ensure that focus, confidence and a real sense of belonging are returned to the Foundation’s deserving beneficiaries.
